A Lazy Sunday Afternoon....

Hello Dhaaarlings...

This is how We spent a lazy Sunday...

On the banks of the Murray River...

A one and a half hours drive to the North from home...

We spent a lovely day relaxing with the family and this was the closest we got to celebratory fireworks...

A pot belly stove... just the ticket for boiling up a kettle for some tea...
The obligatory barbeque was fired up for the evening meal

The kids dropped a few lines in the water... but sadly the fish were not biting...

But the sunshine on the water...  did look lovely...

All day we wre entertained by the local inhabitants....

Families of Fairy Wrens were everywhere and quite oblivious to our presence...
They sounded like tinkling high pitched wind chimes as they hopped about in search of food to feed their hungry broods of chicks...
At one time we counted 8 pairs all with 4 to 5 chicks hopping about learning how to catch bugs and forage... They were facinating to watch. They flit about so quickly that i was lucky to get this male on camera. He was there with his partner and one of the chicks as i took the shot but as you can see the other two darted out of frame.

Ther was also a lot of entertainment from some passing not so locals...

The "not so locals"  were also out in force... Water skiing and wake boarding and generally falling off into the water...

And quite a few were flying the flag...

there was even the occasional jet ski thrown in for good measure...
This one was a tandem... I think the two men on board were only hugging... but I couldn't be sure... they zoomed past so quickly darlings....

All in all we had a lovely day...

Happy Australia Day Darlings...

  1. Are we on the same wavelength with birds? Looks like you had a wonderful day like the Beverly Hill Billies with that pot bellied stove! Maybe one day the sun and warmth will return.

  3. What a lovely day! Thank you for the pix. Though I am worried about there being crocs there.

I am wearing a Geelong Cats shirt today to celebrate Australia Day.

    1. No need to worry about the crocs mate jump in! We are too far south for crocodiles... they only inhabit the northern states of Queensland, the Norhern Territory and Norhtern Western Australia.

Go Cats! tho I'm a long term "Bombers" (Essendon) fan...

  4. Did you enjoy a good punt on the river? It reminds me of time I went cruising down the Panama Canal.

  5. Happy Holiday, Princess !
Interesting to learn that the French were there also. But they seemingly planted no flagpole.

  6. Not only the French but also the Dutch and Portugese explorers gave accounts of a large arid land in the south. They didn't want us either! Back in the day the Brits would grab anything they could get their hands on if it meant getting rid of the unseemly and criminal elements of their overpopulated and poverty stricken society of the time... We were founded on the contents of the ships of fools and miscreants!

  7. Beautiful photos of your river adventure. I am quite envious, as whilst I read about your trip, the rain was hammering on the window here in rural Buckinghamshire. The Fairy Wrens are pretty, too.

  8. Thank you for sharing such stunning photos of the beautiful landscape and gorgeous wildlife! Also, I love the pics of your cooking station set up! I say you picked a great way to spend a wonderful day with loved ones, Princess.

P.S. I also echo the concerns about crocs along with bull sharks and sawfish.
