Do You Want The Good or the Bad News Empress????

Hello Dhaaarlings...

Have a look at some of the architecture at Melbourne's Federation Square...
While I bring you an update on the Empress

Inside the Atrium Federation Square Melbourne

After another exhausting trip to the big smoke the Empress finally had some good news regarding the bone lesion in her skull... The Specialist is quite convinced that it is a benign lesion and there is at this stage no need for treatment. He would however like to continue to monitor the Empress regularly to note if there are any changes with time that may cause to rethink treatment options....

A further review of the MRI Scan has shown a patch of ? low grade cancerous tissue in one of the ventricles in her brain. At present it is very small and only warrants continued regular scans to see of in fact it is growing. It may be slow growing and might not need further intervention or it might not and therefore may require surgery. Either way it is too small to even biopsy at present so again it is a case of wait and see. More scans at Monthly, 2 monthly and then 3 monthly intervals over the next 12 months to see if there are any changes with either of the problem sites. Unless of course the Empress becomes symptomatic ie starts to have seizures!

Last week I took the Empress again... down to the Big Smoke... For her annual review of her hip replacements. The right hip is fine. The left hip is showing some changes on X-ray and is possibly working loose, which would account for a recent series of jarring events while walking... leaving the Empress in intermittent pain.  So, again they want to continue to monitor her hip for any further changes via x-rays on a six monthly basis and any changes noted may lead to requiring more surgery. Mum doesn't seem too phased by any of this. I on the other hand am just a little stressed getting my head around it all... At this rate... Come Christmas...there will be no need to string up Christmas Lights as the Empress will be glowing after all these scans!

The Empress returns from the comfort station.... very much relieved....

  1. Well, that is some good news, in a way, isn't it.
Hopefully the yearlong monitor session will prove to be nothing at all.
Still, a Glow In The Dark Empress is kinda cool.

  3. Hello Princess:

Well, there is at least some reassuring news here and, whatever, we are sure that the Empress must be relieved that the scans have revealed nothing of an immediately critical nature. And, the monitoring sounds to be a good idea which will continue to keep a check on things.

There is currently much debate in the UK about certain kinds of hip replacement joints. We are so sorry that this is another concern for you both and also, a worrying source of pain for the Empress, all of which can be very draining and energy sapping. However, the Empress does seem to have a very sprightly look in the final photograph.Clearly, a formidable woman!

    1. Hello Hattats!
Fortunately the model of hip replacement is not one of those that have been causing concern in many places around the world!
It is good that there is nothing critical to be of concern at this stage. The Empress is quite remarkable in her attitude to it all. "The unsinkable Molly Brown" comes to mind....

  6. Dear Gods. If they will be monitoring her this much...can't she just move in? Save all the too-ing and froo-ing, which must be so stressful for you both.

But great news that nothing immediately nasty is going on.

Don't mind me, but I'm going to pour myself a stiff one. Unless this one here is yours?

    1. Dear Roses,

The too-ing and fro-ing is quite draining in itself with early rises and 3 hour train trip one way then catching several trams just to get there. Then there is the 2 hour wait for a 15 minute consultation with the specialist. Then the turn around and repeat in reverse order to get home again! We are becoming quite the experts having done this 4 times in the last month!
But at least we have some answers now and the schedule for monitoring is a little more strung out over time.

I'll have a refresher thanks... Can you make it a double?

  7. Well, you two better take good care. For for these ups and downs, I suggest you have one of my house boys to take you around, and forget the damn tea, have gin instead honey! It always helps.

    1. Hi Maddie.
I'm trying to coax the Empress into partaking of the occasional "medicinal" gin... With out much luck! On the other hand... Open a bottle of Champagne and she's there with a flute before the cork has had time to land!
