A Rose By Any Other Name....

My favourite Rose is blooming again Dhaarlings...
And I just had to show you...

Yes... It's the "Blackboy" Climbing Rose and this year after the decent rains is covered in a prolific show of large wonderfully scented blooms...

You might also notice the new "Revamped" garden bed which runs alongside   the "Pathway to Nowhere"

I transplanted a row of about 12 "English Box" plants from where the new row of bricks edging the garden bed now are.... across to the garden bed on the right of the pathway. Which I hope eventually... will fill out to form an underplanting of box hedge below the existing row of standard
"White Iceberg Roses"

Most of the box seem to have taken in their new position with only one or two not surviving the transplanting...

I'll post a pic of this when the roses bloom in another week or so and I've had time to trim them up a little...

Meanwhile here are some more roses pic from around "The Palais"...
along with another shot of the "Blackboy"

And here are some of the other roses starting to show off for spring

The purple climbing rose

The Red Climber...

And finally the Yellow Banksia Rose...
A Native Climbing Rose
Thornless with prolific clusters of dainty pale yellow blooms.
There is also a White version of this plant.
I'ts very hardy and robust and seems to thrive on neglect...
This one manages to climb it's way up about 30 feet into the calistamon tree
Then sprouts showy cascades of lemon blooms about 6 foot long in all directions and sprawls out over the roof of the outdoor area.

And I'll be buggered if I'm climbing up that high to give it a trim!...

  1. Beautiful! What a stunning looking garden! I luv the variety of blooming flowers you've got blossoming about the garden. Very nice. Fantastic job, Princess.

The Blackboy does look amazing in full bloom, making for a great natural sculpture and focal point. But I really like the Yellow Banksia for sheer size and explosive white blossoms that look like little bits of sunshine have gathered in your garden!

  2. Your garden is just stunning.

The roses look fantastic...I can almost smell them. You're making me long for the Spring.

That garden bench is begging for an afternoon tea, poured from a good china tea pot. With little cakes and sandwiches and proper linen napkins.

  3. Thanx Eros
The black boy like wisteriareminds me of my paternal grandmother and her garden. She had a "Blackboy Rose" that was probably 3 times the size of this one it grew suspended on sheep wire strung between two old telephone poles...
It was always covered in blooms and she would fill the house with vases full of cut blooms. the perfume from them always evokes in me... happy memories of her...
The banksia rose is stunning but does create a lot of mess when it loses it's petals and leaves in autumn. I'm forever sweeping up a carpet of pale lemon petals...

    Dear Roses

The picnic bench gets well used when the nieces stay over. Tablecloths vase of fresh flowers they pick from the garden and then morning luncha nd afternoon tea is had there for the remainder of the day. Teapot, cups, saucers, milk ans the sugarbowl all get taken down the back And Nan Then arrives with a plate full of home baked goodies to share. It has become a ritual...

Yes I think it was Roses that mentioned cake. But while your here... Might I offer you some Fruit cake fresh from the Empresses oven? Or there are some fresh baked Anzac biscuits cooling on the cake rack or... some hazelnut and chocolate slice if you prefer...

  6. Dear Mr DeVice

I know what you mean.. we have just had one of the wettest and coldest winters in many years...
Which was really nice for a change... I 'm just greatful that Spring has finally arrived here... even if it is a month late...

    Rug up and stay warm...

    Dear Mago

The banksia rose does not have much of a perfume at all unfortunately...
    But it is thornless.
