Hello Dhaaarlings...
Princess has just returned from a little trip to the awfully unruly and overgrown berry patch!
You may recall that last year I posted about my newly planted
Thornless Blackberry Hybrid .
and Raspberry canes...
Well this is what they look like now...
Rather neglected.... but it is quite amazing the number of little treasures one can find if one looks closely....
Berries...
Berries...
And More Berries....
And these are just some of the fruits of my labour....
Banana Passion Fruit, Raspberries and a basket of Blackberries...
Already... The bounty of goodness has enabled the Empress to bake 2 Blackberry Pies
and
2 Raspberry and Custard Flans...
Sadly, the drawback is that she managed to give them away before Princess got a sample...
I'm hoping to at least get a taste of these with some ice-cream and double cream with dinner tonight... That is.... before they get ferreted into the freezer by the Empress as soon as my back is turned!
Too Late!
As soon a I took these photos and came down stairs to prepare this post... I heard the empress cackling up stairs...
sure enough... the fruit is now frozen!
At least there's plenty more where they came from... Darlings...

Berry nice!
ReplyDeleteAre you going to make jam with them? I used to pick wild ones for my grandmother to make wonderful jam.
I hope to make at least a small batch Mr Lax... That is if I can beat the Empress to them before they go into the freezer! I too have fond memories of wild blackberry picking with my grand mother and cousins. But I think we managed to eat more than we collected to put into her pies... recalling the colour of our hands and faces after an expedition!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your botanical enlightenment. I have these things growing wild all over. The old lady who owned the place before me was shrewd, so I don't trust her plantings.
ReplyDeleteI expected to die from eating a wild berry.
I probably still will but such is the case living in a haunted house filled with evil ghosts.
My my, dear Princess, what a lovely tablecloth. Be careful though, blackberries stains are hard to wash off!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Jon
Dear Mr Pirate
ReplyDeleteBest to be safe and offer some to a neighbour... If they survive then I guess they berries are safe to consume.
On the other hand... are your Ghosts, ghosts because they consumed some of the berries?...
Dear Huggy Jon
The Empress is responsible for the plastic "Flock Backed" tablecloth.
It comes out every year to protect the Kitchen table from cooking spills while she makes and endless supply of Christmas Cakes, Plum puddings, Shortbreads, and all manner of biscuits that get wrapped up in baskets and given to fiends and family as Christmas gifts...
There is nothing better than home made treats!
