Green Tomato Chutney...

Hello Dhaaarlings...

With Summer having left us... and Autumn bringing with it cooler days and even colder nights... My remaining tomatoes were looking a little worse for wear. I didn't hold out much hope for the remaining fruits ripening so I decided to rescue them and put them to good use by turning them into

 "Green Tomato Chutney".

By roughly chopping them up with some green apples from the tree in the garden... Some thinly diced brown onions. Some allspice, white pepper,
salt, ground cloves, brown sugar, a couple of cups of white vinegar... All thrown into the pot with little heat added  they eventually turned into this...

Jars of Home-made Chutney

Great for giving a zing to your taste buds when used as a condiment with a meal or spread in sandwiches to spice up a boring old cheese or sliced meats...

I was pretty happy with the result... And so was the Empress!

It is one of her favourite chutney's...

I had to wrestle with her... just to keep a jar or two for myself!

  5. Hi MJ

I think that they prefer "Sweet" to "Spicy". I've been trying to post using "Chrome" the photos just don't load like they did when I used "Windows XP" I may have to go back to the old faithful!

    Hi XL

Sadly the tomatoes have come to an end. But there are still plenty of potatoes and Pumpkins cropping. I still have buckets of Quince and Apples to preserve. The friends olive trees are just about ready to start harvesting. I plan to put in some winter vegetables this week. That is if it stops raining!

Stay tuned for more harvest pic's.

  7. Thank you for the tip Mr Mago
I will continue to prepare and post in XP... Chrome seems to be a little too "Hit and Miss" for my liking.

"Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" is a movie starring Jessica Tandy and Kathy Bates. Green tomatoes were served on the menu which gave name to the Cafe in the movie... Fried with a little onion and sugar...
