We are beside ourselves....

GAWD help us Dhaarlings...

Batten Down the Hatches

Something big is on the way...
Apparently... as we antipodeans are so culturally bereft...
Our governmental agencies have deemed that we will need to broaden our artistic and cultural horizons and have kindly arranged for a Visiting Opera!...
Is this not nice of them? How thoughtful and considerate. To be attempting to raise the uncultured profile of the great unwashed

How excitement for all!...

Well that is what I understood from the wireless reports and the people on the moving picture box that call themselves reporters... so it must be true and in my best interest to know about it.... anyway...
already the "media people" (aparently that's the latest hip term that they are calling themselves) are all gushing ... and... leaving puddles of excitement... everywhere... in fevered anticipation of the event...

Rumour has it that an Operatic Diva

Is flying out here with an entourage and 300 of her nearest and dearest sycophants followers...

For 1...Yes  I said... Only 1... Gala Performance... at where else?

The Sydney Opera House

and we are paying for the privilege from the public purse!

Though the gushing "media people" failed to mention this little snippet of very important information in their overwhelming excitement!

And would you believe...

Are you holding your breath?...

Little "Vinnie" has grown up and apparently has wings as he is doing the driving...

From the air he just needs to turn South after crossing China and look for the big yellow island

Someone extremely Expensive is visiting our shores and in The Opera Diva's own words is...

"Excited to Come Down Under"

I hope they capture that on film for hilarity's sake...

Watch all the excitement of the Opera announcement here...

I'm so excited I'm averting the eyes and getting out the mop and bucket as we speak Dhaaaarlings...

If I had any shares I'd be saying sell! sell!

  4. All this fuss over Oprah Winfrey she's so overrated, I wouldn't pay her in washers. I know how you feel about the tax payer footing the bill, we've got that bloody coffin dodging pontif on a state visit on Thursday.

They say that life immitates art but this is just rediculous...there is no money to house the homeless...get old people operations they really need or feed the poor but they can find millions for this? It disgusts me...

  12. I have no "real" idea who this Oprah lady is and that this actor drives an airoplane - why not.
But it is seemingly a state affaire. Something is wrong, out of proportion. You already mentioned in one of your comments the media in general and the Australian in paricular and I confess that I did not believe you - but this is .... I have not the right English words for it.
    Es ist beängstigend albern.
Does it follow a plan - don't get me wrong, I am no way painting the big conjurament on the wall, but are all the media following in this direction? That would mean pseudo-news, sports, celebrity gossip - all the nonsense ... on all channels. Is Mr. Hearst still alive?

  13. Dear Mago
In recent years i have noticed a detrioration in the quality and standard of "news reporting" where items like this one become the leading major story on most of the local news bulletins, particularly on the comericial stations of both radio and television. There has been a trend toward Infotainment Or decresing news items to a few meaningless soundbites or latest buzz words. And often the reporter themself is attempting to make themself the story... The recent Political election coverage here woeful with the general media more focussed on personality rather than policy and context.
I'll give you a simple example...
One candidate gave a speech on proposed policies, the reporter listed some of the more contentious issues then poceeded to go into a lengthy discussion about how he was so distracted by the candidates earlobes!

The person that we are paying for is already a very wealthy celebrity and our government belives that by having her visit the county at the taxpayers expence will boost tourism through her endorsement.

I get very disappointed and angry on so many levels when things like this are happening and pople just seem to accept it without question.

This post was an attempt at satire
but is not very far from an example of current news reporting...

Most commercial tv news programs run for Half an hour. Of that
3minutes of "Breaking news" and major local stories,
    3 minutes "World news"
3 minutes of cross promotion of other programs on the same chanel presented as news
    3 minutes of weather reporting
    2 minutes of Stockmarket reporting
9 minutes of sports coverage And the ramainder of the time in advertising and comercial promotion between segments...

You get my drif I hope...

  14. I think I understood, dear Princess. More blah, less news. No independent asking, simply reporting - and if there's nothing else, discuss earlobes ...
Vinnie and the celebrity lady get a full free trip with media coverage to attract tourists - according to the tune: Opera visited Australia, so I have to visit too. A giant advertisement.
